Christopher Gibson QC

Christopher Gibson has experience in all fields of professional negligence work, and the largest element in his work is now in the clinical negligence field. He is frequently instructed in cases involving injuries of maximum severity including, in particular, cases of cerebral palsy involving birth injuries to children where allegations are made in respect of obstetric and neonatal management. He also has experience of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder cases secondary to clinical negligence.

He undertakes non-medical personal injury cases, and he has considerable experience of legal negligence cases arising out of personal injury and medical cases; and he also has experience of disciplinary cases in the medical field.

His experience in costs cases has involved client/solicitor disputes appearing both for clients and solicitors; and in taxation disputes where he has represented both the paying party, and the receiving party. These have been high-value cases in which there have been allegations of a breach of the indemnity principle, and of systematic fraud in the creation of false attendance notes to bolster a bill in excess of £1M.

He is also on the CFA committee of the Bar Council which, amongst other things, looks at the current contentious aspects of CFA costs matters.

Christopher Gibson is a contributing editor to Jackson & Powell on Professional Negligence, contributing with the chapter on Medical Practitioners. He is named in the current editions of Chambers Directory and The Legal 500 as one of the Leading silks in clinical negligence. He is a member of the Professional Negligence Bar Association (PNBA).
