 Francis FitzGibbon

Francis FitzGibbon is a specialist criminal practitioner, recommended by Chambers and Partners 2009. He undertakes all types of criminal work, in particular fraud, money laundering, and drug trafficking, and is briefed as a leading junior. He undertakes advisory work, and has assisted the Bar Council in its response to the 2008 counter-terror legislation; he has also advised on the Corporate Manslaughter & Homicide Bill. Reported cases include R v Edwards (1998) Crim L R 207, R v P [2002] 1AC 146 (admissibility of intercepted telephone calls from abroad), Kulah [2007] Crim LR 907. Francis is regularly instructed in miscarriage of justice appeals. In 2005 he successfully appealed a Jamaican death row conviction at the Privy Council, Evon Smith [2006] 1 WLR 243. He has given lectures on the impact of money laundering legislation on solicitor's practice. He sits as a part-time Immigration Judge.

  • R. v Britton (conspiracy to pervert the course of justice involving allegations of police corruption in Essex)

  • R. v White (manslaughter by gross negligence)
  • R. v Streeks and others (large-scale conspiracy to supply cocaine).
