Overview

Lucy specialises in Criminal law. She defends for a range of criminal solicitors in the Crown Court in all areas of criminal law both alone and as a led junior. Her practice encompasses the full range of criminal offences.

Her practice has encompassed the following areas amongst others; murder and serious violence, fraud, arson, driving offences causing death, sexual offences, drug importation and supply, robbery and offences against public justice. Lucy has also acted for doctors and pharmacists facing criminal charges arising from their work.

Lucy also has a developing area of practice in appeals against conviction and sentence, applications to the Criminal Cases Review Commission and applications for special leave to petition the Privy Council. From April 2010, Lucy will be focusing on Appellate work.

  • Patrick Thomas Tibbetts v the Attorney General of the Cayman Islands [2010] UKPC 8 - Appeal to the Privy Council on the issue of juror bias in a fraud trial in Grand Cayman.

  • R v Bard and Others ("The Drax 29") [2009] - Leeds Crown Court - Lucy represented a number of protestors at sentence and mitigated along with Ben Newton, led by Edward Rees QC.

  • R v Ta - Appeared as led junior for man accused of stabbing his companion on Richmond Hill during their first date.

  • R v C - Appeared as led junior in 4-handed murder, following stabbing to death of 14 year old boy in the Holloway Road area.

  • R v OD - Minicab driver charged with causing death by dangerous driving on the M25.

  • R v Th - Sexual assault allegations by step-daughter against stepfather.

Lucy is a contributing author (together with other members of Doughty Street Chambers) to a book published by Oxford University Press: Human Rights in the Investigation and Prosecution of Crime (Jonathan Cooper and Madeline Colvin eds) - OUP 2009

Other

Prior to coming to the Bar, Lucy developed considerable experience in asylum and immigration law as part of the Immigration Team at Tyrer Roxburgh & Co representing appellants before the AIT. She maintains an interest in immigration related criminal offences.

Lucy has also gained experience by assisting the Prisoners' Advice Service and the Prisoners' Race Discrimination Unit. She has expertise in the area of prisoners' rights, encompassing parole, disciplinary proceedings and all related areas.
