Nicholas Toms

 Nicholas Toms

Nick Toms practises primarily in all areas of employment and discrimination law. He also undertakes internal disciplinary and grievance hearings and cases of alleged professional misconduct. He has extensively represented trade union members including those in the BECTU, NUT, FBU, GMB, NUJ, TGWU, UNIFI, AMICUS, USDAW and UNISON. He conducts training for the TUC and individual trade unions and has spoken at seminars on discrimination law across Europe.

  • Matuszowicz v Hull City Council (2009) IRLR 288 CA


Nick Toms also practises in public law, housing, landlord and tenant (including service tenancies/ occupiers), property, personal injury and clinical negligence. He prepared submissions to the Office of Fair Trading and represented the Independent Manchester United Supporters Association at the Competition Commission in the BSkyB merger inquiry.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Nick Toms was a freelance journalist specialising in politics, current affairs, trade unions and labour relations. Nicholas is a member of the Executive Committee of the Haldane Society of Socialist Lawyers, Vice-Chair of the Access to Justice Alliance and a member of the GMB.
