Marisa Cohen

Marisa Cohen specialises in public and administrative law.  Her work includes judicial review and civil claims involving public bodies.

Immigration Asylum and Personal

Marisa’s specialist immigration practice includes all aspects of immigration and asylum including complex asylum claims, trafficking, deportation and in particular where the offending was committed as a minor, EEA law, points-based system, and applications for bail.  She has an extensive judicial review practice including challenges in respect of fresh claims, certification, trafficking, and unlawful detention.

Marisa has particular expertise in dealing with highly vulnerable clients including children, victims of sexual violence, and those with complex disabilities.

Immigration Business and Personal

Marisa has provided advice in relation to business immigration matters and successfully represented appellants before the IAC.

Administrative and Public Law

Marisa practises extensively in judicial review and increasingly deals with cases involving complex procedural errors of law on the part of the Secretary of State for the Home Department. Marisa can advise on all procedural matters and tactics in relation to judicial review.

Community Care and Health

Marisa has dealt with cases involving unaccompanied minors and age assessments as well as advising clients on tactics in respect of community care assessments and its overlap with homelessness legislation.   Marisa has also advised clients in respect of their immigration status and the applicability of community care legislation. 

Housing and Social Welfare

Marisa also specialises in housing law and in particular, community care, homelessness, defending claims for possession, anti-social behaviour, and the application of the Equality Act.
