Rupert acts for defendants and claimants in all aspects of criminal law with an emphasis on fraud, in proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, in human rights and public law, extradition, and in sports law including contractual disputes, disciplinary tribunals and arbitrations. Rupert has particular expertise in challenging the legality of arrest and detention, and search and seizure and is accredited to accept instructions via the direct public access scheme and is a Registered Lawyer under The FA Football Agents Regulations.

- Ben Thatcher v Lancashire Police; Lewis Hunt v Warwickshire Police; Terence Holness v South Yorkshire Police; Safina Mansur v West Yorkshire Police. All challenges against the retention of unconvicted persons DNA on the database. Thatcher settled in his favour at a late stage. Holness settled in his favour pre-action. Hunt was refused permission and Safina Mansur is currently awaiting a listing, permission having been granted, following the Supreme Court's decision in GC and C.
Unlawful search and seizures
- Glenn and Co (Essex) Ltd v Revenue and Customs Commissioners [2012] 1 Cr. App. R. 22; [2011] EWHC 2998 (Admin). In the execution of a search warrant, a failure to present the occupier of premises with a copy of the warrant prior to the execution of the warrant rendered the search unlawful.

The successful challenge to the search of the home of a forensic computer expert led to the refusal of the Chief Constable to return Mr. Bates' property following the High Court ruling. Eventually this led to an application to commit the Chief Constable to prison whereupon the property was returned the evening before the court hearing (cited in Archbold at paragraphs 10-65 and 15-73).
