Overview: Tim is an acknowledged expert in constitutional and public law, human rights law, commercial law and public international law and is a member of the Public Law, International law, Extradition and Media teams within chambers. He was called to the Bar in 1990 and was a member of the Treasury Counsel ''A Panel'' between 2003 and 2006. When he took silk in 2006 he was, at 38, the youngest member of the Bar to do so. Tim has a high profile domestic and international practice and has extensive experience of public and private litigation at both first instance and appellate levels, as well as in public inquiry work. In 2009 he appeared before a 9 judge panel of the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords, a 7 strong Privy Council and the 17 judge Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights. Between 2004 and 2008 he acted for amicus curiae in three cases relating to the Guantanamo Bay detentions before the United States Supreme Court and, since 1994, he has appeared in over forty cases before the European Court of Human Rights. His media related commercial law experience embraces a series of important disputes relating to ownership of art and valuable manuscripts and to cable and satellite television distribution agreements. In 2008 Tim was awarded the Liberty / Justice Human Rights Lawyer of the Year Award and in 2006 he won the Chambers and Partners Pro Bono Award. He is currently a visiting fellow at Mansfield College Oxford and teaches at the London School of Economics on the highly acclaimed course, Law, War and Human Rights. He is the Vice Chair of the Bar of England and Wales Human Rights Committee and holds a number of other professional appointments. His hobbies include marathon running and he has a fastest time of 2.58, set at the London Marathon in 2008.
