"A terrific range of counsel is available at this set, which in a little over 20 years has created a strong identity at the Bar." - Chambers & Partners 2012
Civil practice teams at Doughty Street Chambers have always recognised that our key strength lies in our multi-disciplinary approach to casework. With such diverse expertise our barristers are uniquely placed to address the cross-over issues often interwoven within our cases.
Administrative and public law is at the heart of Doughty Street Chambers with more than 50 barristers of all levels of call practicing in this area.
Doughty Street Chambers is one of the most international sets in the UK.
Sources admire its “genuine commitment to civil liberties” and its “incredibly long history of doing human rights work.”
Members of the Courts Martial Team at Doughty Street Chambers offer a wide range of experience in courts martial involving preliminary and case management hearings, summary appeals and trials. Members will travel to any of the Military Court Centres in the UK (including Northern Ireland), Germany, Cyprus or wherever the hearing is to be heard. Doughty Street Chambers has in-house video link facilities for conferences with domestic and over-seas clients and several conference suites if the client would prefer to travel to Chambers.
Chambers currently takes on cases directly from the Armed Forces Criminal Legal Aid Authority (AFCLAA) and instructing Solicitors firms.
For armed forces personnel based outside of the UK a Courts Martial Advocate from Doughty Street Chambers can be requested by simply filling in the relevant section on the Legal Aid form. Simply complete the Armed Forces Legal Aid form nominating 'a barrister from Doughty Street Chambers'. AFCLAA will then contact Chambers and a barrister will be nominated to run the case from referrals to Higher Authority straight through to the Courts Martial itself. Whilst we cannot attend the police station (civilian police or Service police) with the client, we can assist in arranging for an experienced and capable solicitor to do so if need be.
Team members are available to offer free preliminary advice and assistance in any way possible.
