Reception for Amnesty International Israel: Doughty Street Chambers

Date: Thursday 25 June 2015

Time: 18:30 - 20:30

Location: 53 - 54 Doughty Street, London WC1N 2LS

Amnesty International Israel performs valuable work in a troubled part of the world, analysing, reporting and criticising the abuse of human rights both in nearby states where no Amnesty group would be tolerated and within Israel itself. The internal campaigning has led to a worrying move whereby some politicians withinIsrael are now seeking to de-legitimise the work of this internationallyrespected organisation. While it is unclear whether Amnesty would be caught by the plans to heavily tax foreign donations to “NGOs whose actions or goals deviate grossly from the limits of democratic discourse”, as currently under discussion within the government of Israel, that trend is one that could affect the funding and the standing of all human rights organisations in Israel.

Attached is a short brochure that gives a better idea of the work Amnesty International Israel is currently undertaking.

On June 25th two of Amnesty’s Israel officers, Hela Alosh and Molly Malekar, will be in the UK on a brief visit and will be our guests at this reception, designed both to spread the word about their work and to seek ways to help with fund raising for the crucial work they do. Please come and join us for the evening. Refreshments will be provided. It would help the organisers greatly if you are able to RSVP.

Please RSVP to events@doughtystreet.co.uk or call 0207 404 1313
