#DoughtyStWomen mugs in high demand! And now on sale in support of Women In Prison

We are delighted at the interest in and attendance at “What More Can The Law Do For Women”, a series of events we held marking International Women’s Day.  A report on our conference is being compiled and will be published in the coming weeks.

To thank our delegates for coming, and for contributing with their valuable ideas and experiences, we gave them a small gift as they left the event:

What was intended as a small “thank you” seems to have caught the imagination of the Twitterati! We have had many requests from lawyers, journalists, charities, politicians and others asking if they can get hold of one of our “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun…damental Rights” mugs.  The conference challenged delegates to take positive action to improve the lives of women, and we thought we would try to use the popularity of the mugs to do the same.

We have ordered a new batch of mugs and will now sell them in support of the charity Women in Prison, a women-only organisation which provides women-only services, and which campaigns for a recognition and response to the distinct needs of women affected by the criminal justice system.  Their vision is of a world without women’s prisons; a world where the abuse, marginalisation and poverty at the root of so much of women's offending is addressed before women come into contact with the criminal justice system.

Dr Kate Paradine, Chief Executive of Women in Prison, writes, "We’re absolutely delighted that Doughty Street, their clients, colleagues and friends are supporting Women in Prison with the sale of these brilliant mugs.  We’ll be using the money to help produce our Women in Prison magazine, which is written by women in prison all over the UK and produced by a group in HMP Holloway.  I know they’ll be thrilled to have the support."

You can get hold of one (or indeed many!) of our mugs  for £10 (collection from Doughty Street Chambers) or £13.50 (inc P&P to a UK address).  Payment is accepted by cash, cheque (payable to Doughty Street Chambers) or Bank Transfer (please e-mail us for account details).  Please email an order or enquiries to Chelsea McLaren – c.mclaren@doughtystreet.co.uk

We hope that you will support this initiative, inspired by social media.  And we hope you will use social media to spread the word!
