First Old Bailey Private Prosecution for fraud concludes

Doughty Street Barrister, James Wood QC (instructed by fraud specialists Shearman Bowen) represented Ketan Somaia at the Old Bailey in a long running fraud trial, involving an historic multi million dollar investment scam. The case concerned conduct in the late 1990's. Somaia had been chairman and chief executive of the ex BCCI Delphis banks, and the principal owner of Dolphin Group of companies, chaired by ex tory grandee Cecil Parkinson. The case was unique as it involved a private prosecution brought by the victim, instructing city firm Peters and Peters. Somaia, was acquitted of some allegations and convicted on others. He has serious health issues, is due to be sentenced shortly.
