On 25 September Stephen Reeder presented a lecture entitled "Forensic sunlight : transparency in the Court of Protection" at the Court of Protection Conference in London. Presented by Simon Gore of SGCL and chaired by Malcolm Chisholm a packed conference heard from leading Court of Protection practitioners.

 

The lecture addressed media access and reporting and explained the application of the common law concept of open justice, Articles 6, 8 and 10 ECHR, the January 2014 Practice Guidance from the President, and COP PD13A issued in May 2014.

 

Stephen advises print and broadcast media, statutory authorities, NGOs and individuals in relation to access to proceedings, publication of information, and reporting restrictions. He has been described by one media industry leader as " the go-to open justice consigliere for court of protection matters".
