High Court Grants Permission to Challenge Library Closure

The High Court has recently granted permission on all grounds to challenge Shropshire Council’s decision to close and relocate Church Stretton’s local library.

Church Stretton Library Support Group challenges Shropshire Council’s consultation process maintaining that it was unfair and unlawful. Despite a robust defence by the local council, the High Court has granted permission on the papers to bring the claim. The High Court has also granted interim relief preventing the local council from taking any further steps towards the closure and relocation of the library.

The challenge is expected to be heard in the autumn.

Nicholas Bowen QC and Graeme L. Hall represent the Church Stretton Library Support Group, instructed by Michael Imperato of Watkins & Gunn Solicitors.
