Human trafficking conference: Peter Carter QC and Abigail Bright guest speakers at Burlington House, Piccadilly

 

Peter Carter QC and Abigail Bright were invited to speak today at a UK Policy event, 'Confronting Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking: Empowering Law Enforcement, Supporting the Victims and Ending the Trade in Human Beings'. 

 

The Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, the Rt. Hon. Baroness Butler-Sloss GBE, moderated presentations by Peter Carter Q.C. and Abigail Bright.

 

Peter Carter QC spoke about the statutory defence per section 45 of the Modern Slavery 2015, a defence available to slavery or trafficking victims who offend. 

 

Abigail Bright spoke about extradition law and the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
