News broadcasters do not have to reveal Dale Farm footage to police

The High Court has ruled that the UK's leading news broadcasters do not have to disclose their unbroadcast footage of the Dale Farm eviction to Essex police. The court ruled that the police required clear evidence of criminality when applying for production orders against the media.Gavin Millar QC represented the BBC, ITN and Sky News. Production orders against his clients were quashed by the High Court as based on insufficient evidence, incompatible with free speech rights and unfair.
