A female firearms officer who endured sexist behaviour while at work at Gatwick Airport has won her claim of sex discrimination against Sussex police. PC Barbara Lynford had argued that her colleagues subjected her to constant abuse, harassment and bullying. She claimed that they made lewd comments about her physique, openly displayed male magazines containing female nudity, treated her with a lack of respect and courtesy, frustrated her ability to progress at work, and made her feel like a non-member of the team.
The employment tribunal had also heard how Sussex Police firearms officers with anti-terror responsibilities slept on duty, forged their reports, left their firearms unattended, used their radios while patrolling at Gatwick to point out to each other members of the public they found sexually attractive, and watched pornographic television channels whilst on duty at Gatwick.
PC Lynford was represented by Henrietta Hill instructed by Russell Jones and Walker.
