The Criminal Law Team is delighted to invite you to the fifth seminar in a series run jointly by Doughty Street Chambers and Forensic Psychiatry Chambers. Each seminar will consider the legal framework, the psychiatric issues arising and the interplay between them.

Diminished Responsibility

The aim of this seminar will be to re-examine the defence of diminished responsibility from both a legal and psychiatric perspective now that its reformed version has been in operation for some time. The seminar will describe types of medico-legal issues that have arisen in cases and will also address relevant Court of Appeal decisions, focussing on the role, presentation and interpretation of expert evidence in supporting or opposing the defence.
