The Seminar will examine the case of MS v United Kingdom where the European Court of Human Rights unanimously found that the detention of a mentally ill man in a police cell for over three days violated his rights under Article 3.

The speakers will discuss the process of pursuing the claim in the European Court of Human Rights, the Court's judgment, how the judgment has contributed to the European case law on this issue, and will consider its impact in terms of bringing human rights claims in the mental health context in the future.
