Doughty Street's All Day Housing Conference 2025: Rogue Landlords

THE EVENT PACK CAN BE ACCESSED HERE.

Thursday 27th March | 9:00 - 17:00 | In person, followed by a drinks reception

We are delighted to extend a warm invitation to you for our upcoming one-day housing conference. As the Renters’ Rights Bill 2024-25 makes its way through Parliament, our focus will be on the subject of ‘Rogue Landlords’ with an array of practitioner and expert speakers covering topics familiar to housing practitioners navigating legal/procedural frameworks and attendant practical challenges.

Key Topics:

  • Unlawful eviction/harassment – from lock-outs, enlisting the support of local authorities to the enforcing of orders for damages/costs – what levers and tactics can be deployed to ensure effective outcomes for clients?
  • Disrepair - covering injunctive relief, building claims for damages, EPA prosecutions and use of the Ombudsman.
  • Landlord hostility/criminality – from the bringing of frivolous claims, threats of violence, modern slavery and ‘sex-for-rent’. Shining a light on some of the more insidious lived realities of clients.
  • Discussion of the above within the short-term context prior to the enactment of the provisions of the Renters’ Rights Bill 2024-25.

We’ll be joined by members of our Housing team including Sarah Steinhardt, John Hobson, Daniel Clarke, Cormac Devlin, Marie Paris, Alice Irving, Cara Hall, Martin Westgate KC alongside external experts such as Jamie McGowan of Justice for Tenants, Gus Silverman of Deighton Pierce Glynn and Will Ford of Osbornes.

This seminar is aimed at solicitors, NGOs, and other organisations supporting individuals facing housing law issues, including those at risk of eviction, experiencing homelessness, or dealing with disputes related to tenancy rights and housing conditions.

Tickets:

  • £25 per person for general attendees
  • £15 per person for not-for-profit organizations

The full ticket price will be donated to a chosen charity.

We are delighted to have the Legal Action Group as our media partners for this conference.
