Holocaust Memorial Day

Wednesday 27 January 2021 | 13:00-14:00

About this Event

From 1pm to 2pm on Wednesday 27 January 2021, Doughty Street Chambers will host a webinar to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. We will remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.

The webinar explore the gradual erosion of human rights, and we will hear from several Holocaust survivors, introduced by Rabbi Naftali Schiff. Three Doughty Street barristers will speak. Marisa Cohen will talk about ‘Aktion T4’, the mass murder of people with disabilities and those in psychiatric hospitals. John Hobson will tell us about the persecution of LGBT people. Amos Waldman will reflect on the themes of retribution and forgiveness and what this means for his own practice as a barrister.

We will then look at contemporary forms of extreme human rights abuses by learning about the plight of Uyghur Muslims in China. We will hear from Rahima Mahmut, a Uyghur singer and human rights activist who lives in the UK. Our Adam Wagner will chair the event and will show his 5-minute film “The Warning Signs”.
