Doughty Street Chambers’ Criminal Appeals Unit is dedicated to assisting solicitors at all stages of the appeal process.

Our Criminal Appeals Advice Line is aimed at providing free preliminary advice and guidance for solicitors in potential appeals and Criminal Case Review Commission matters.

The procedure is straightforward:

  • Fill in the questionnaire below. Please fill in as many details as possible.
  • As soon as you submit the form this will be emailed to appeals@doughtystreet.co.uk, which will is received by Senior Crime team clerks, in order for them to allocate suitable counsel.
  • We will then call you to arrange a free preliminary telephone advice session with a member of the Doughty Street Chambers’ Criminal Appeals Unit at a mutually convenient time.

The barrister will not have seen any (or will only have seen limited) case papers. Accordingly, any advice must be regarded as being informal and preliminary in nature.

Users of the advice line are under no obligation to instruct barristers at Doughty Street Chambers if they decide to pursue the appeal.

The preliminary advice given is completely separate from any other instructions that may be received.

Please note that the advice line is only open to solicitors firms and not lay clients.
