At Doughty Street, we have a wealth of experience acting for clients across the healthcare sector. This group of practitioners sits within the Court of Protection team but many members are also practitioners in adjacent areas such as Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury, Inquests and Inquiries, Regulatory, Community Care, Professional Discipline, and general Public Law.
Members have wide-ranging experience across the entire spectrum of litigation ranging from the ground-breaking to minor treatment decisions. Their expertise includes litigation concerned with the right to health, and treatment, withdrawal of treatment, and public law challenges relating to access to healthcare, continuing healthcare, and challenges to the reconfiguration of health services and related NHS consultation obligations. The team also includes specialists in clinical negligence, personal injury and medical law claims; human rights, discrimination, and group claims pertaining to the enforcement of rights when receiving healthcare.
Many members of the group specialise in complex and developing areas concerning health in the context of cases before the international courts. Additionally, they are often involved in training on health law issues for clinicians and others, as well as advising on law and policy reform in the field of healthcare. Members are involved in academic writing, making major contributions regarding health law, both in the UK and abroad
We are all human rights specialists who bring a wide-ranging and innovative skillset to our advocacy and advisory work.
