Associate Tenant Susie Alegre is the Interception of Communications Commissioner for the Isle of Man

Susie Alegre's report on Interceptions on the Island for the year ending 2016 has now been published and will be tabled before Tynwald later this month.  In the report Susie observed significant improvements in the procedures around the warrant process over the year, but pointed out that the Manx legislation needs to meet the standards set out in the European Convention on Human Rights and highlighted the need for reform.  The report stressed that, although the Island must be able to cooperate across borders and modernisation is needed, the UK Investigatory Powers Act 2016 would not be an appropriate model as the Manx context is quite different, not least in terms of scale with only 27 warrants issued in 2016.
