The Sweet & Maxwell Human Rights Law Conference 2014 : Ulele Burnham, Stephen Reeder & Sophy Miles co-present a specialist session on the Court of Protection.


On 22 October 2014 Ulele Burnham and Stephen Reeder of Doughty Street Chambers were joined by Sophy Miles of Liles & Partners LLP to present a session on 'Developing humans rights law in the Court of Protection'. Simon Vincent Smith for Thomson Reuters convened an excellent and well attended conference addressed by many of the pre-eminent human rights lawyers in the UK. Ulele addressed the jurisdiction of the court pursuant to the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the complex issue of the role of the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court. Sophy addressed the Cheshire West decision and the future of Schedule A1 and DoLs authorisation. Stephen addressed open justice in the Court of Protection and balancing Article 8 privacy rights with Article 10 transparency.
