Following Privy Council Proceedings, David Hislop QC Closes Defence Case of Mark Lundy in New Zealand’s High Court

In the High Court in Wellington, New Zealand, David Hislop QC has closed the defence case in the retrial of Mark Lundy.  Mr. Lundy faces charges alleging that he murdered his wife and child in August 2000.  In March 2001 he was convicted of both counts of murder, but in 2013 David appeared on Mr. Lundy’s behalf before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, which remains the court of last resort for New Zealand for cases concluded before 2003.

Following David’s submission, the Privy Council quashed both convictions and ordered a retrial.  Verdicts from that retrial are awaited.

As well as his trial work in serious and complex crime, David also specialises in appeals, particularly of convictions of murder, to the Court of Appeal, Privy Council and Criminal Cases Review Commission.  In recent years he has successfully overturned four murder convictions.
