BBC varies Transparency Order ahead of public interest documentary

The BBC, represented by Claire Overman, has successfully applied to vary a Transparency Order to permit the identification of Robert Bourn, a man with learning disabilities who was recommended palliative care following a diagnosis of a highly treatable cancer.

The BBC seeks to report Robert’s case in a forthcoming Panorama documentary exploring treatment options offered to individuals with learning disabilities.  Its application was strongly supported by Robert’s mother, Sharon Bourn.

The hearing was reported by the Open Justice Court of Protection Project, here.
