Professor Marko Milanovic joins DSC Academic Expert Panel
We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Professor Marko Milanovic to Doughty Street Chambers’s (“DSC”) Academic Expert Panel.
Members of the DSC Academic Expert Panel often serve in advisory roles, providing DSC barristers with valuable insights and expertise on complex legal issues. Members may also provide expert witness evidence in legal proceedings, and act as counsel before international courts and tribunals. Professor Milanovic brings a wealth of expertise and experience in international law, human rights law, international criminal law, and the law of armed conflict.
Prof. Milanovic is currently a Professor of Public International Law at the University of Reading School of Law and serves as the Director of the Global Law at Reading (“GLAR”) research group. He is also the co-general editor of the ongoing Tallinn Manual 3.0 project on the application of international law in cyberspace. His role as Special Adviser on Cyber-Enabled Crimes to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court further highlights his significant contributions to the field.
Professor Milanovic has held visiting professorships at prestigious institutions, including Michigan Law School, Columbia Law School, the University of Bologna, and the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. His scholarship has been cited by various international bodies, including the International Law Commission and judges of the European Court of Human Rights. He has also been awarded the Serge Lazareff Prize for excellence in legal services by the NATO Allied Command Operations Office of Legal Affairs.
Professor Milanovic's extensive experience as counsel, advisor, and expert witness in cases before the International Court of Justice, the European Court of Human Rights, and domestic courts of several States underscores his practical expertise. His public service work, including his appointment by the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights to examine alleged human rights violations in Belarus, demonstrates his commitment to global justice.
Before joining the University of Reading, Professor Milanovic was a Professor of Public International Law and Co-Director of the Human Rights Law Centre at the University of Nottingham. His previous roles also include Vice-President of the European Society of International Law and Senior Fellow at the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence.
