Sean Sutherland, Julie Davis, and Beth Chalcraft join Doughty Street as Pupils
We are delighted to welcome Sean Sutherland, Julie Davis, and Beth Chalcraft as they embark on their pupillage journey here at Doughty Street.
About Sean
Prior to joining the Bar, Sean was the judicial assistant to Lord Justices Warby and Underhill at the Court of Appeal of England and Wales, where he worked on high-profile appeals across civil and public law.
More recently, as a legal consultant, he advised the FSU, a free speech charity. Previously, he worked in healthcare and media regulation with the NMC and IPSO respectively, and for the human rights charity JUSTICE. Sean has also held academic positions at the University of Oxford, the University of Auckland and King’s College London.
Sean joins Doughty Street Chambers as a media and information specialist pupil.

About Julie
Before joining Doughty Street, Julie worked as a paralegal in several highly-ranked criminal law firms. She has assisted in the representation of individuals at every stage of criminal proceedings, from the preparation of pre-charge representations to the challenging of wrongful convictions in the Court of Appeal. Julie has experience representing clients accused of a wide range of criminal conduct, including sexual offences, assaults, coercive and controlling behaviour, and driving offences.
Julie also has experience in extradition law, having worked on extradition requests from a range of Part 1 and 2 countries including the USA, Mexico, Ukraine, and Portugal. This experience includes assisting on written submissions to the UK Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights on violations of Article 5 in extradition cases.
Julie joins Doughty Street Chambers as a crime specialist pupil.

About Beth
Before commencing pupillage, Beth was the Judicial Assistant to Lady Justice Whipple and Lord Justice Green at the Court of Appeal, where she worked on medical law and public law appeals. Prior to this, Beth worked as a Research Assistant at the Law Commission. She drafted chapters of the Burial, Cremation, and New Funerary Methods consultation paper.
Beth gained experience in clinical negligence claims and inquests as a paralegal at Hodge Jones & Allen Solicitors. She assisted with high value clinical negligence claims and inquests for families involved in the Lampard Inquiry, a statutory inquiry investigating the deaths of mental health inpatients. She developed her experience when volunteering for Action against Medical Accidents, a charity providing advice on medico-legal matters.
Beth joins Doughty Street Chambers as a health and human rights specialist pupil.
