Tayyiba Bajwa and Laura Stockdale secure not guilty verdicts for their clients involved in million-pound fraud against NatWest bank

Tayyiba Bajwa’s and Laura Stockdale’s clients stood trial for fraud alongside 4 others at Southwark Crown Court. The Crown alleged that the defendants had falsified their income and provided fake payslips to obtain personal loans. It was alleged that the defendants were part of a larger fraud involving as many as 42 individuals.

Cross-examination of a banking expert highlighted the weaknesses in the bank’s system for approving personal loans. Through an extensive review of WhatsApp messages between individuals at the bank and a brokerage firm who had been previously convicted of conspiracy to defraud, the defence established that the loan applicants had in fact been exploited by the convicted conspirators.

All defendants were unanimously acquitted in under four hours.

Tayyiba Bajwa was instructed by Foster Mohammed and Laura Stockdale was instructed by ADH Law Solicitors.
