Tom’s practice in the Court of Protection has included complex cases involving serious injury, serious medical treatment and associated disputes relating to discharge destination and family wishes in respect of palliative care. Tom has a busy practice in which he is regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor on behalf of vulnerable/incapacitated adults in addition to acting for children and young people, family members and local authorities across the country.
Tom brings to this area of work his extensive experience of coronial law and practice, both as a leading barrister and an Assistant Coroner. In these contexts, he is required to marshall highly complex and technical clinical issues engaging the principles of the MCA 2005 in both community and care settings. The remainder of his practice cuts across public law, civil litigation and human rights issues, all of which equip him with a bevy of skills that are highly relevant to SMT work. Tom is also an Associate Lecturer in Media Law at the Goldsmiths College and has considerable experience of matters pertaining to open justice, privacy and the media.
