Zimran Samuel MBE appointed to the Government Advisory Group on a new international convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Protection Orders
We are pleased to announce that Zimran Samuel MBE has been appointed to the Advisory Group established by the Ministry of Justice to support the UK Government’s participation in efforts to develop a new international convention on the cross-border recognition and enforcement of protection orders.
The project, known as the Recognition and Enforcement of Protection Orders (REPO), follows a proposal by the UK Government which was adopted by the Hague Conference’s Governing Council.
The proposed international legislative initiative has the potential to address the practical difficulties that arise where individuals protected by civil protection orders travel across international borders. The orders potentially relevant include non-molestation orders, domestic abuse protection orders, anti-harassment injunctions, forced marriage protection orders and female genital mutilation protection orders.
Zimran said: “I am delighted to join the Government Advisory Group. The effective protection of individuals should not cease at an international border, and I look forward to contributing to the development of this potentially significant international framework.”
