The seminar will explore the Supreme Court decision on the meaning of deprivation of liberty in the health and social care context. The speakers will discuss the practical implications of the decision for lawyers, policy makers, campaigners and carers, as well as considering the aspects of the judgment that might raise new and complex issues of law in future cases, both in the care context and beyond. The seminar will also examine the report of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the emerging call for a radical reform of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
