Security of Tenure in the Public Sector: The Big Issues, Old and New

Date: Thursday 23 March 2017

Time: 18:30 - 20:00 (Registration from 18:10)

Location: 53-54 Doughty Street, London WC1N 2LS

Venue: Doughty Street Chambers

Speakers: Dominic Preston, Lindsay Johnson, Martin Westgate QC

The security of tenure of public sector housing has been eroded over the last two decades.  Dominic and Lindsay will look at some of the more recent changes, notably the loss of tenancies for life and the increase in mandatory grounds for possession, and will consider the common strategies available for housing lawyers and their clients when dealing with those changes.

The seminar will also cover recent developments in public law, Article 8 and the Equality Act defences, so important in the context of possession claims against clients with little or no security of tenure.
