Laura Dubinsky KC and Aarif Abraham shortlisted for the Advocate Bar Pro Bono Awards 2024

Doughty Street Chambers is delighted to announce that Laura Dubinsky KC and Aarif Abraham have been shortlisted at this year's Advocate Bar Pro Bono Awards 2024.

Laura Dubinsky KC has been shortlisted for Pro Bono KC of the Year. She is being recognised in particular for her work representing the UNHCR in its intervention in the Rwanda scheme judicial review case - regarded as ‘the highpoint of [its] litigation work, not just in the UK but globally’. Also notable, is her work on strategic pro bono interventions for Bail for Immigration Detainees (BID) and the AIRE Centre including in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal and before the First-tier Tribunal (General Regulatory Chamber).

Aarif Abraham has been shortlisted for International Pro Bono Barrister of the Year. Aarif is being recognised for his involvement in highly impactful international matters in order to ensure accountability for genocide and other ongoing international crimes that include: unlawful aggression against Ukraine; genocide and atrocity crimes facing several minorities around the world, including the Yazidis, Uyghurs, Rohingya, and Hazaras among others; and the enforcement of binding international law by furthering legislative change in the UK. A substantial amount of this work has been through the international NGO, Accountability Unit, which he founded in 2016, and in his capacity as trustee for Coalition for Genocide Response.

The awards are an opportunity to highlight the incredible pro bono achievements of the Bar and celebrate access to justice champions and unsung pro bono heroes. Since 1997 the Bar Pro Bono Awards recognise the outstanding commitment to pro bono work by barristers or chambers.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 8th May at Middle Temple Hall.
