Christopher Johnson  - Healthcare and Serious Medical Treatment

Year of Call: 2014

Legal 500 2023, Tier 5 (Personal Injury)

Christopher’s practice is overwhelmingly focussed on medical and healthcare litigation. The mainstay of his practice is clinical negligence.  The remaining areas of his practice, namely inquests into deaths following improper medical treatment, and his court of protection work, also have a significant health-related component. Christopher routinely deals with issues relating to capacity in a broad range of decision-making domains including consent to medical treatment. Recent examples include: (1) acting for the family in an inquest where a key issue was the capacity of the deceased to reject ECT treatment whilst a psychiatric inpatient (before his suicide), and (2) a catastrophic injury case where the claimant was said to lack capacity to make decisions in particular in relation to whether he should live/receive care at home or in an institutional setting.
