We are all reluctant participants in what is arguably the most devastating conflict of our times - a climate and environmental crisis. It is widely accepted that human activity is principally responsible for rising temperatures and the world-wide increase in extreme weather events, loss of species, contamination of waterways – the list goes on.

At the same time, we need energy. Just about every aspect of our lives depends on an ever-increasing energy supply, much of which still derives from fossil fuels. So the current crisis could be seen as a clash between humanity’s different needs - our need for energy and our need for a healthy and sustainable world. And yet – these environmental conflicts are increasingly being addressed through the use of mediation and other effective forms of dispute resolution by dialogue.

This presentation aims to give a brief overview of the ways in which mediation can work to resolve these apparently irreconcilable needs - for us, our children and future generations.
