Administrative and public law is at the heart of Doughty Street Chambers, with most of our barristers having experience of public law issues arising out of their respective practice areas.  However, in addition we house a number of heavyweight public law practitioners who are well-equipped to deal with complex constitutional, administrative and human rights related public law cases.  There is also a considerable body of junior practitioners who specialise in social welfare cases, regularly dealing with urgent cases.

Doughty Street Chambers is pre-eminent in acting for claimants in administrative and public law cases and members have been involved in many of the leading cases in recent years.  A particular strength of members of Doughty Street is the breadth of their expertise, with many leading practitioners in areas as diverse as prison law, immigration, local government, mental health and terrorism. All members of Doughty Street Chambers have a commitment to human rights and civil liberties which they bring to their cases. Doughty Street Chambers is at the forefront of human rights related public law cases.

Although the primary focus of Doughty Street Chambers is acting for claimants members also work for local authorities, central government and regulatory bodies. It has long been recognised as a leading set in administrative and public law by both Chambers and Partners and Legal 500.  Our team was shortlisted for "Public Law Set of the Year" at the 2019 Legal 500 Bar Awards.
