BY INVITATION ONLY
The Business and Human Rights Team at Doughty Street Chambers would like to invite you to the second of our roundtable discussions. Please note for operational reasons the date of this event has had to move to Monday 2nd July (a change to the previously advertised 3rd July).
This event will look at the problem of sexual harassment in supply chains, and what companies and their professional advisers can do to combat it, and how their efforts can complement the work done by NGOs.
At our Business and Human Rights roundtables we hope to facilitate conversations between companies, their lawyers, and civil society, about how businesses might enhance the ways in which they protect and respect the human rights of their workers, workers in their supply chains, and the communities in which they operate. Each roundtable will feature a keynote speaker, followed by proposals on some topics for wider discussion, which we hope will prompt a lively exchange of knowledge, experience and insights from those in attendance.
Chaired by Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, this event will feature contributions from industry experts:
Caroline Haycock, Group Director for Quality Assurance at Travis Perkins plc, will offer thoughts on “How to uncover the truth behind the smiles”. She will speak of her experience in establishing trusted relationships with factory workers to enable proper due diligence. Fiona Gooch, Senior Policy Advisor from the Traidcraft Exchange, will speak about efforts to combat sexual harassment from the Assam tea supply chain. And providing further illustrative examples from India, Zeba Khair from Lexindia will join us by video link from New Delhi, to discuss how anti-sexual harassment legislation is being implemented in that jurisdiction.
