Acquittal for mother accused of providing false alibi in murder

Jake Taylor represented KL, charged with perverting the course of justice in a murder investigation into her partner and the father of her children. The charges arose from a witness statement KL provided relating to her knowledge of the whereabouts of her partner on the night of the murder. Her partner stood trial and was convicted of murder.

KL was subsequently prosecuted on the basis that her witness statement had purportedly contained false statements given with an intention to pervert the course of justice in the murder trial. KL’s trial involved complex admissibility arguments related to the evidence from the murder trial.

Following a trial at Luton Crown Court, KL was unanimously acquitted. As a result, KL was able to return to her family and to her profession working with children.
