Client acquitted of kidnap and rape

Yvonne Kramo successfully defended RB, who stood trial on counts of kidnap and rape. The Crown’s case was that RB tricked the complainant and her friend into his vehicle by offering them a lift home. After the complainant’s friend was dropped off, it was alleged that RB picked up his co-defendant and that he went on to rape the complainant with the co-defendant’s assistance/encouragement. The complainant was then thrown out of the car. This was denied by RB. The defence case was that while he had had consensual sex with the complainant when they were alone in the car, no sexual activity occurred when the co-defendant was present. The evidence against RB included the immediate reporting of the allegation to an off-duty policeman, whose door the complainant had knocked on for help. The Crown also relied on extensive CCTV footage and telephone messages between the two defendants.

RB was unanimously acquitted on both counts by a jury after a seven-day trial at the Huntingdon Law Courts.

Yvonne was instructed by Oliver Mather and Rayan Qadri of Lloyds PR Solicitors.
