Court of Appeal allows out of time appeal against sentence

In 2021, MU had been convicted after trial of a series of serious sexual offences and sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment. Farrhat Arshad was instructed as fresh counsel to appeal against the sentence. Farrhat argued that given that MU was a child when he committed the offences the sentence was manifestly excessive.The Court of Appeal allowed the extension of time, quashed the sentence and reduced it to one of six years’ imprisonment.
