Doughty Street Chambers accepted into the inaugural Mayor of London’s Business Climate Challenge (BCC) programme

Doughty Street Chambers is proud to announce our participation in the London Mayor’s Business Climate Change programme for 2022/23 as part of the London-wide green recovery towards a net-zero city.

Having declared a Climate Emergency in 2018, the Mayor of London committed to make London a net-zero carbon city by 2030, implementing the Green New Deal Mission to route London’s progress towards meeting this goal.

As part of this mission, the Greater London Authority has established the Mayor’s Business Climate Challenge (BCC) with the overarching aim of reducing emissions from London’s existing commercial buildings by providing energy conservation advice and implementation support to businesses, driving them to take action to reduce their workplace energy consumption in the short term and plan for net-zero buildings and workplaces as soon as possible in the future.

The BCC programme will provide technical support to Chambers to improve its energy efficiencies and reduce carbon emissions. The collected learning will form the evidence base for implementing energy efficiency and retrofit across commercial buildings throughout London.

Ben Cooper KC Chair of the Doughty Street Green Team says:

“Chambers is looking forward to rising to the London Assembly Business Climate challenge and sharing our policies and initiatives to help other businesses urgently achieve Net Zero emissions.”

Doughty Street Chambers will now receive bespoke guidance and technical support to maximise energy conservation and efficiency throughout the business, with open access resources and peer to peer learning networks. Expertise will be delivered by the GLA’s Programme Delivery Unit (PDU) run by build-environment consultancy, WSP UK Limited. The efficiencies gained by taking action to reduce energy consumption within the business will inevitably result in costs savings and sustainable practices to future-proof the business which impacts on our clients, barristers and staff, and be part of the London-wide green recovery towards a net-zero city.
