Doughty Street Chambers awarded International Team of the Year at LexisNexis Legal Awards 2020
We’re delighted and honoured to announce that our International Media Defence Team have been awarded “International Team of the Year” at the LexisNexis Legal Awards 2020.
In the past year, the Doughty Street International Media Defence Panel has been at the heart of all of the major cases internationally concerning media freedom. They have acted in cases concerning the deaths of journalists, including the brutal assassinations of Jamal Khashoggi (Saudi Arabia/ Turkey), Daphne Caruana Galizia (Malta), Jan Kuciak (Slovakia), Anton Hammerl (Libya) and Christopher Allen (South Sudan) and many cases concerning the detention and targeting of journalists simply for doing their jobs.
They have acted in high profile cases (such as Jamal Khashoggi, Maria Ressa and Wikileaks) and cases which never hit the international headlines (such as securing the release of rapper Abe Abe in Cameroon, or of women’s rights activist and blogger Amal Fathy in Egypt).
As well as winning the International Team of the Year, Doughty Street was also shortlisted for the Award for Wellbeing.
Thank you for your support!
