Doughty Street Chambers congratulates Sir Keir Starmer on victory in the General Election

Doughty Street Chambers congratulates our former colleague Keir Starmer on his General Election victory last night.

Keir was called to the Bar in 1987 and practised in human rights, international law, judicial review, extradition, criminal law, police law and media law.  A founding member of Doughty Street Chambers since its inception in 1990, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2002, and as Head of Chambers in 2007.  An award-winning barrister, Keir acted in some of Doughty Street’s most important cases during this time, defending the legal aid system, overturning death sentences in Commonwealth countries, and upholding freedom of speech and human rights.

He acted as human rights adviser to the Policing Board in Northern Ireland between 2003-2008, before taking up his appointment as the Director of Public Prosecutions and Head of the Crown Prosecution Service in November 2008.

Doughty Street Chambers wishes him well as Prime Minister.
