Doughty Street counsel in ‘Children Overseas’ hearings at Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse

From 11 to 15 February 2019 the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse will hold public hearings in Phase 2 of the Children Outside the UK investigation.  This investigation will examine the legal and policy framework which is designed to protect children outside the UK from sexual abuse by those with links to England and Wales. This includes the civil orders regime which may be used to prevent those who are known to pose a risk of harm to children from travelling abroad; extra-territorial jurisdiction which enables the UK to prosecute those who sexually abuse children abroad in the UK; and the statutory vetting and barring regime.

Henrietta Hill QC and Antonia Benfield are instructed as Counsel to the Inquiry; Caoilfhionn Gallagher QC and Keina Yoshida are instructed on behalf of ECPAT UK and Child Redress International; and Aswini Weereratne QC is instructed on behalf of the British Council.
