Harj Narulla appointed as visiting researcher at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford

Harj Narulla has been appointed by the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford as a visiting researcher for Michaelmas Term 2025.

Harj will spend time in Oxford working on his book on climate reparations, entitled The Case for Climate Reparations. The book will draw on Harj’s experience as counsel for Solomon Islands in the International Court of Justice’s landmark advisory proceedings on climate change, and as counsel in similar advisory proceedings on climate change before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

Harj has written about climate reparations for The Guardian, and has been quoted by The New York Times, BBC, Financial Times, Reuters, Carbon Brief, and Drilled on the topic.

Harj holds a number of other academic posts, including as an Honorary Research Associate in climate litigation at Oxford’s Sustainable Law Programme and as a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at LSE.
