Jennifer Robinson receives WILPF Australia PeaceWoman Award

We are delighted to announce Jennifer Robinson has received the WILPF Australia PeaceWoman Award in recognition of her work for Human Rights and independence for West Papua, among other achievements.

For more than a decade she has been involved in advocacy related to self-determination and human rights in West Papua. In December 2020, Jennifer was involved in an urgent UN appeal filed after serious escalation in threats by Indonesian government against the West Papua movement. A significant development in the decades-long battle for self-determination and independence, on 1 December 2020 the ULMWP announced the formation of a provisional Government of West Papua. This followed a statement from the UN Human Rights Office on November 30 in Bangkok calling on Indonesia to address the historic demands of the West Papuan people after escalating violence in the region.

Since 1915 the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) has been working to achieve a vision of a world free from violence and armed conflict, in which human rights are protected, and women and men are equally empowered and involved in positions of leadership at the local, national and international levels. In May 2021 the WILPF  honours Jennifer Robinson and five other women whose work and activities are promoting many aspects of peace and freedom in our world.
