Matthew Turner meets police and prosecutors in Puerto Rico

Matthew Turner met with prosecutors and police detectives in San Juan this week in relation to the death of a British Citizen on the island. Matthew is instructed on behalf of the family of YQ, who died last December during ‘Crypto Week’ in highly suspicious circumstances.

Matthew was instructed by the family shortly after YQ’s death, and coordinated the gathering of video, photographic and witness evidence about what happened. Matthew interviewed witnesses, collated and analyzed the evidence, and provided a report to the FBI in January of this year. After ruling out any connection to other suspicious deaths in Puerto Rico relating to crypto, the FBI passed the case back to the local authorities.

This week, Matthew flew to Puerto Rico and presented his report to the prosecutors and detectives working on the case, who confirmed that, after reviewing the report and evidence, they will proceed with the investigation with a view to prosecuting those responsible for YQ’s death.

Matthew has provided a full range of services to YQ’s family, including:

  • Gathering and collating evidence relating to his death;

  • Interviewing witnesses;

  • Instructing local lawyers in Puerto Rico;

  • Obtaining the death certificate;

  • Arranging the return of YQ’s ashes;

  • Liaising with the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office; and

  • Liaising with the FBI and local police and prosecutors.

Matthew is well-recognized as one of the country’s leading junior barristers specialising in wrongful death cases, including deaths abroad, and can provide specialist advice and representation to families whose loved ones have died overseas.
