Nigerian extradition request discharged

Peter Caldwell secured the discharge of Nigeria’s request for the extradition of a requested person charged with fraud valued at over US$1 million.

The defence challenged the request of grounds of the sufficiency of the evidence, prison conditions, (Article 3), fair trial (Article 6) and the risk that Nigeria’s criminalisation of same sex marriage, would prejudice requested person at trial.

Following submissions to the prosecutor in Nigeria on the state of the evidence, the request was withdrawn.
