Sarah Dobbie joins Doughty Street Chambers

Doughty Street Chambers is delighted to welcome Sarah Dobbie who joins us from 5 Essex Court.

Sarah specialises in public and administrative law, asylum and immigration, and international law. Prior to joining the Bar, Sarah worked as a Refugee Legal Advisor in Egypt and Greece, and practised as a solicitor (Australian qualified). She has interned for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Office of the International Co-Prosecutors in the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (the Khmer Rouge Tribunal).

Sarah is developing a core practice in public and administrative law with an emphasis on immigration and asylum. She has recently been instructed in a number of public law challenges to Government immigration and asylum policies, including:

  • acting for Asylum Aid in the challenge to the Rwanda removal policy (led by Charlotte Kilroy KC with Michelle Knorr and Harry Adamson)

  • acting for Freedom from Torture in the challenge to the refugee “pushback” policy (led by Raza Husain KC with Jason Pobjoy and Gayatri Sarathy)

Sarah also advises non-governmental organisations, including:

  • Freedom from Torture on the consistency of various aspects of the Nationality and Borders Bill with international human rights law, international refugee law, and common law (Joint Opinion with Raza Husain KC, Jason Pobjoy, and Eleanor Mitchell)

  • The Good Law Project on the routes by which individuals fleeing from Ukraine can claim asylum in the UK and the impact of the Nationality and Borders Bill on the same (Joint Opinion with Raza Husain KC and Alasdair Mackenzie)
